What is Jaw Reduction & Contouring?

Over time, skin loses elasticity and definition. The jawline is where this is most obvious. For men, a strong jawline is very much associated with masculinity, health and youth, whereas women want a clearly defined jawline for a younger, more attractive profile. As a sagging, jowly jawline can be one of the biggest giveaways of our age, it’s not surprising that more and more of us are choosing to take action on on Jaw Reduction and Contouring.

Fortunately, there are a growing number of cosmetic treatments with which we can reduce the jowl area and contour your jawline to rejuvenate your face and give it a much-needed lift.

The treatments we recommend and use for jawline contouring depend from person to person. Non-invasive treatments such as Forma[E1]  skin tightening suit some people, whereas minimally invasive procedures such as Fractora with a deeper head or FaceTiteTM work well for more advanced cases. We can also perform a procedure dubbed the ‘Nefertiti neck lift’ using Botox® and dermal fillers.

Jaw Reduction & Contouring FAQ’s

  • Forma is a radiofrequency treatment that delivers controlled heat to targeted areas of the face or body (see Forma Plus)[E1]  to stimulate the production of new collagen and elastin. These building blocks of the skin give it crucial elasticity and tone. If we use Forma around your jawline, you should see a significant reduction in loose, sagging skin. You can read more about Forma here.
  • BodyTiteTM  liposuction. With this treatment, a small cannula goes under the skin for us to aspirate (suction) fat from the jowls. Using a separate radiofrequency head, we are able to heat your skin cells to stimulate collagen and elastin production and tighten the skin on your jawline. Most patients see a 40% tightening in their skin immediately.
  • The skin around the jawline can act rather like a balloon, gradually deflating and sagging due to the natural loss of facial volume caused by gravity and age. With a Nefertiti neck lift – named after the beautiful queen of ancient Egypt who was renowned for her beauty and long, elegant neck – we use Botox® and dermal fillers to tighten the loose skin around your jawline. This includes injecting Botox® into a thin jawline muscle called the Platysma; by relaxing this muscle, the active muscles in your upper face work harder and perform a non-surgical lift. We also inject dermal fillers to restore the lost volume in your face, pumping that deflated balloon back up.
  • The number of treatments you need will depend on your individual case. We may recommend a combination of treatments for the best results or one treatment may be enough to last six to 12 months. Your best starting point is to book a free one-to-one consultation with Dr. Gauba, during which she can look specifically at your jawline and your skin and make recommendations specific to your needs.
