If you suffer from excessive sweating – hyperhidrosis – then we understand that it may be affecting your confidence and quality of life. Although sweating is necessary to keep our bodies at an even temperature, when the sweating becomes excessive and begins to interfere with your daily life, you shouldn’t have to suffer in silence.
Unfortunately, there isn’t yet a cure for hyperhidrosis but there are a number of treatment options available to help you manage what can be an embarrassing and distressing condition. We offer the use of Botox® injections for excessive sweating under the arms or on the palms of your hands.

If you suffer from hyperhidrosis, you probably know sweating plays an important function in the human body, regulating our temperature in a hot environment or when we’re exercising. In people with hyperhidrosis, the sympathetic nervous system that controls sweating seems to go into overdrive and causes sweating at inappropriate times far in excess of the amount of sweat needed to maintain normal body temperature. Hyperhidrosis can affect different areas of the body; it affects men and women equally, and all races. As well as affecting your confidence and self-esteem, you may find that you are prone to irritating and painful skin conditions as a result of excessive sweating.
Botox® has been used medically, to treat muscle spasms, and cosmetically, to treat the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, for many years but it has also been discovered that, when small doses of Botox® are injected into the skin, it can block the nerves that supply the eccrine glands, preventing them from producing sweat. Although not a cure for hyperhidrosis, Botox® can offer significant relief for between three and six months. Botox® is usually recommended for hyperhidrosis if you have not responded well to topical treatments such as antiperspirants, iontophoresis or medication. Botox® is not suitable for generalised hyperhidrosis but can be used to treat small areas such as the underarms and the palms of your hands.
You should find that the results of your treatment last for three to six months. However, if the treatment is successful, we may recommend that you have a top-up treatment every four months to help you manage your hyperhidrosis effectively.
Generally speaking, Botox® injections are very comfortable. Because you are likely to need injections in sensitive areas such as your palms or underarms, we will use a topical local anesthetic to ensure that the treatment is pain-free.
