A PDO is a cutting-edge treatment, often dubbed a ‘lunch hour lift’ by the media. This is because the procedure can be performed in approximately one hour but works to lift areas of sagging skin such as your neck, cheeks, jowls and droopy eyelids to significantly rejuvenate your appearance.
A thread lift is ideal if you have minimal sagging but feel that gravity is pulling down your face and ageing your appearance. This popular treatment requires minimal downtime and offers excellent results. There is no scarring, no general anaesthetic and it is far more affordable than a surgical facelift.

With a thread lift, we make a small incision close to your ear and advance find threads made from PDO polydioxanone along pre-marked contours of your face. The path of these threads mimics the tension lines in the skin to deliver an immediate lifting effect. What also happens with a PDO is that the body recognises the thread as a foreign object, which stimulates the production of collagen and elastin around each thread as part of the healing process. In turn, this tightens and lifts the skin of your face, making it look firmer, younger and less subject to gravity. PDO threads have been used for surgical sutures for many years, particularly in heart surgery. They are well tolerated, strong and breakdown naturally over time.
You should notice an immediate improvement to your appearance, which will continue over several months as your body produces new collagen. Every person is different and how long the results of your PDO thread lift last will depend on factors such as your age and the degree of sagging we have corrected. As a rule of thumb, most people see an improvement in their appearance for two to three years. It is possible to have a top-up treatment with additional threads to extend the benefits of the thread lift.
In the hands of an experienced and highly trained doctor, the PDO thread lift has an excellent safety record. As with any minimally invasive surgical procedure, there are some risks but someone who is familiar with this procedure will know how to minimise these. Minor side effects of this treatment include bruising, swelling, tenderness, numbness and slight asymmetry, although most will resolve within a couple of days.
Most patients who choose a thread lift are in their 40s or older, as this treatment is ideal if you have mild to moderate sagging. It would not be recommended for someone in their 20s or 30s.
